The site offers free access to information and discussions, with private, invitation-only networks, via application, for finding cofounders and advisors.
Alter launched FounderDating in 2012 in response to the rise of the startup culture.
“It’s become much more possible to start companies of all types because you need less money to do it. The resources and tools are better. The other piece that’s always been important – people – became noticeably even more important.”
Experiential wisdom, and the benefit of having dealt with similar experiences, Alter says, has become more valuable than a traditional playbook.
“It’s not about information that’s true or false, it’s in the judgment calls that are pretty unique to each business.”
